At Hawkhurst Church of England Primary School, everything we do is underpinned by our core values: Compassion, Hope, Community.
We believe in developing and delivering a curriculum that is broad, balanced and above all meaningful to our school community. In collaborating with our stakeholders we have planned for a wealth of learning opportunities to prove our children with a robust education in curriculum subjects, a keen sense of themselves and their local community and the skills to prepare them for life beyond Hawkhurst Primary School. We achieve this through careful planning for skills progression through termly topics in each year group, engaging enrichment activities and whole-school projects to explore, work together and celebrate our learning. Remote Learning Framework Action Plan - COVID-19
EYFS
The Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum is based upon the EYFS statutory framework document and supported by Development Matters, which is non-statutory guidance material for the implementation of the statutory requirements of the EYFS.
Religious Education
The programme of study for Religious Education is prescribed by the Diocese of Canterbury and an overview is displayed on this website. The Early Years Foundation Stage programme of study can be accessed from the website of The Diocese of Canterbury.
Phonics
Hawkhurst C of E Primary School uses the “Read Write Inc” phonics scheme. Pupils in EYFS and KS1 receive a daily a daily phonics lesson of 30 minutes. Assessment is carried out every six weeks and groupings of pupils are altered according to progress made. The impact of the RWI scheme is that the majority of pupils have completed the scheme by the end of KS1.
